I'm just starting to wrap my head around some of the SemWeb technologies. As a newbie, is this the right place to be posting simple questions or is there a better discussion list for beginners?

Yes this is a good place to ask basic questions, you'll find plenty of answers already covering various topics and people will always be happy to answer questions however basic you may think they are.

Re discussion lists, [email protected] is the main list but it tends to be primarily used for announcements, calls for papers and detailed debate (read argument ;-) ) on contentious issues in the community/standards. Feel free to ask questions on there but you'll tend to get a faster more friendly response here
